MILDRED FLORENCE MCKINNON On August 9, 2007 Mildred (Millie) peacefully passed away. Mildred was married to Gordon A. McKinnon for 60 years prior to his death in June 2005 Mildred was a mother to Brenda Borody, Nancy McKinnon and Ian McKinnon, and a grandmother to Taylor (husband Theo), Morgan, Ryan, Breanne and Maxim. She was about to become a great-grandmother to Lorelei Valentine. Mildred is survived by her only sister Terry Myers of Kelowna and was predeceased by her brothers Leonard, Jack, Lawrence and Frankie. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Terry for being such a devoted and caring sister and for helping so much in her last days. As the centre of the family Mom created a beautiful home and for years put tasty meals on the table. Mom had a great style and a fabulous complexion! Mom loved word games and puzzles. She was a skillful sewer and fisher. She and Dad cherished their early years in the bush at remote CN stations. Later they enjoyed Lake of the Woods. Mom was proud of her career as a librarian and department head at the Dafoe Library, University of Manitoba. Mom had a dry and pointed sense of humour and a concern for others that never waivered. In the last two years she strived to maintain her independence and was assisted wonderfully by Jean Hebert, Jennifer Graham and Theresa Cerwenka. The family would like to thank Jean for her care that went so far beyond that of a caregiver. Jean was pivotal in keeping Mom safe and happy and was always there in a crisis. The family would like to recognize the high quality of care provided by the staff of St. Francis Unit, Holy Family Nursing Home.
