VERNA IRENE WEST After a long and courageous battle our loved mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully, and in the grace of God, at the Grace Hospital Hospice on August 14, 2007. Cherishing her memory are her three sons, Jeff (Colleen), Vogan (Barbara) and Paul (Joanne); her four grandchildren, Meghan, Candace, Joanna, Kendra (Sean); sister Donna Rees; brother-in-law Jim, and many, many friends. She will be forever missed. Verna was predeceased by her father and mother, Aaron Stahle and Alice Stahle (Bell); her brothers, George and Norman; her sisters, Francis, Mildred, Marie, Evelyn and Betty; and brother-in-law Cyril. Mom was born December 28, 1921 in Kitchener, Ontario and was a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1943 to 1946. Verna and her family moved from Ontario to Manitoba in 1968 and it is here where she raised her family and worked with the Hudson Bay Company until her retirement in 1992. Verna was an active member in the Lutheran Church and was part of the Alter Guild at the Saint James Lutheran Church. Mom would often share her insights with the Pastor and Mom very much looked forward to attending the weekly services at the church. Verna was a loving Mother and a devoted friend. She always had time for conversation, a good meal out, a game of cribbage or just sitting and enjoying the quiet. Mom enjoyed her plants, watching sports and spending time with family and friends. In her earlier years with the family, many happy times were spent camping or at the beach. She was a well known fixture at her apartment and you would always see her sitting on her patio on the warm summer days. Mom would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, home care and the staff at the Grace Hospital Hospice for all the care and support over the last two years. We will always miss her kind and gentle ways, her warm smile and her blue eyes. A service will be held Saturday, August 18, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Saint James Lutheran Church, 871 Cavalier Dr. with a reception to follow.
