MARY LOUISE MATICHUK It is with heavy hearts that we announce the tragic passing of Mary Matichuk of Stuartburn on Monday, August 13, 2007. Mary is survived by her children Ernest, Ron and Angela and Donna and Ted, beloved grandsons Nicholas and Jeremy, brother Jarvis and Liz, sister Sonya and John. She was predeceased by her husband William and her parents Stefan and Pearl Podolsky. Also left to mourn her sudden passing are her extended family members which to Mary would include her many close friends. Mary had many communities near and far to which she belonged. Her lively presence and enthusiasm will be missed in so many ways, by so many people who knew and loved her. Mary had a true passion for gardening and landscaping her riverside piece of paradise. The ongoing creativity she spent on her surroundings will be her legacy to her family, and serve as sweet remembrance of her love of labour. Mary was devoted to her faith and cultural communities in her rural area and beyond. She celebrated her family's heritage and regarded Ukrainian Orthodox tradition with the utmost importance. Above all her many activities and commitments, her most cherished times were these last six years of being the ultimate Baba to Nicholas and Jeremy. Prayers will be said on Friday, August 17 at 7:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Dr., Steinbach. Funeral rites begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Tolstoi, MB, with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers in her memory, donations to the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Orthodox Church are graciously requested. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • The obituary is very beautiful and a true reflexion of who your mother and my friend truly was. My most heartfelt sympathy to all the family; sorry to be out of the province at such a time but do believe me that I am with you all, in heart and spirit, as you bid a last farewell to Mary and pay her our last respects. She is gone but will not be forgotten. Albert L.. - Posted by: albert Lepage (Family) on: Aug 16, 2007
