Born: Jun 01, 1921
Date of Passing: Aug 15, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLINDA ELLA ZIMMERMAN (nee DREWLO) Peacefully on Wednesday, August 15, 2007, our beloved Mother and Grandmother, Linda, died at the Grace Hospital at the age of 86 years. Remaining to forever cherish Mom's memory are her son Donald and his wife Erica and their children, Michelle and Christine; daughter Louise Wojcik and her husband Richard and their children, Rachel and Ryan; sisters-in-law, Irene Drewlo, Violet Drewlo, Edna Robb, Ruth Sanduliak and Anne Zimmerman; brother-in-law Ed Zimmerman and wife Evelyn, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) in 1995, after 34 years of marriage; brothers (sisters-in-law), Art (Lila), Emil (Almida), Albert and Arnold; sisters (brothers-in-law), Lena (Herman) and Margaret (Ted). Linda was born on June 1, 1921 on a farm near Moosehorn, MB. She lived on the farm until 1950 when she moved to Winnipeg. Mom worked at the Deer Lodge Hospital while living with her sister Margaret Yaeger and family. She met Bill Zimmerman and they married on June 11, 1960. Since moving to Winnipeg she was an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Cross participating in the choir, Altar Guild, E.L.W. and teaching Sunday School. Mom's strong faith always guided her daily life. While raising her family she left Deer Lodge Hospital and took on part time work cleaning houses. Her favourite pastimes included sewing, crocheting, gardening, baking, canning, visiting and calling family and friends. Linda remembered all her family and friend's birthdates, anniversaries, deaths and was a great help when it came to her family's genealogy and helping plan family reunions. We will always remember Mom and Dad entertaining their longtime friends on Friday evenings. After Dad died in 1995, Mom continued to live in our family home at 838 Ashburn Street until she moved to the Arms of the Cross which allowed her to be close to her Church community. Linda continued to be independent and would still go to her appointments by bus even though we suggested that she take a cab. In 2006 she was unable to live on her own and moved in with Louise, Richard, Rachel and Ryan and received extended care there. Due to her immobility and continued failing health, Mom was hospitalized in July where she remained until her death on Wednesday. Linda's Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 18 at 10:30 a.m., in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Cross, 560 Arlington Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba with Pastors Carol Janke and Leon Gilbertson presiding. She will be laid to rest beside her husband Bill in the Garden of the Good Shepherd in Chapel Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Portage Avenue. Our family would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of Starbuck Home Care; Mom's private Home Care, Cathy and Jing; but especially to Millie, Susie and Gail, whom Mom became very close to. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Canadian Lutheran World Relief, 1080 Kingsbury Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2P 1W5 or to the charity of one's choice.
