Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEVELYN RUTH WHITEFORD (nee KOEHLER) Our dear mother, grandmother and aunt passed away peacefully at the age of 87 at her home in the Riverview Health Centre on August 13, 2007. She will be fondly remembered by her family and many friends but especially by her son Richard, daughter-in-law Valerie and grandchildren Jennifer and Adam, all of Ottawa; her closest friend and companion, Edel Fuhr of Winnipeg; nieces Janice and Yvonne, sister-in-law Doreen and nephews Brian, Craig and Don. She was predeceased by Neil, her beloved husband of 50 years who passed away in 1995 and by her brother Henry, late of Ottawa. Evelyn was born in Norwood in 1920 and continued to live there for most of her life. She first resided at Norwood Terrace then moved with her family to other homes on Marion Street, Enfield Crescent and Eugenie Street. After the war, she and her husband Neil moved into their new home on Tremblay Street and began a long and happy life together. She lived there until 2004 at which time she moved first to Rosewood Village and then to Riverview. She loved being with people and had a long career in retail sales which began just before the war when she became a clerk at the Norwood Department store. After bringing up her family she returned to the retail industry and settled at Zellers and later Woolworths on Marion Street where she remained until she retired. She often commented on how much she missed working. In her later years she traveled frequently, visiting friends in Western Canada, the USA and England and sightseeing throughout Europe and Southeast Asia. While she enjoyed travel immensely, she was always happy to return to the comfort of her friends in Winnipeg. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at Desjardins Funeral Chapel at 357 Des Meurons in St. Boniface. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Society, Unit 10 - 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9.
