RONALD ALAN DEWAR Peacefully on August 15, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer and a strong faith in Jesus Christ, Ron passed away surrounded by his family. Ron was born on November 11, 1935 (Remembrance Day) in Winnipeg. He will be forever remembered by all who knew him as a remarkable man. Ron graduated from West Kildonan Collegiate Institute and also attended the University of Manitoba studying psychology. After losing his eyesight in his early 20s, he trained as a Rehabilitation Counsellor in Toronto. He began what would become a 35 year long and distinguished career with the C.N.I.B. in Winnipeg assisting others with blindness; as well as public relations. He retired from the C.N.I.B. to spend quality time with the love of his life, his wife Agnes. Years in Public Relations at C.N.I.B. led Ron to a volunteer path where he gave freely of his time to others through many organizations including Lions Club, United Way, Victoria General Hospital Foundation and Toastmasters. He was honoured with numerous service and volunteer awards, most notably the Lions Foundation Melvin Jones Fellow for dedicated and humanitarian services and C.N.I.B. Grace Worts' Staff Service Award for a distinguished and valued career. Ron was predeceased by his wife Agnes; parents Jean and Archie, and brother-in-law Norm Lowry, and leaves to mourn his children, Alan (Lorraine), Joanne, Robert; grandchildren, Taryn, India, Kahl, and Emmet; sister Gail Lowry, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, as well as many close friends and neighbours. Ron was grateful for the numerous people who assisted him in reading, shopping, and general support, creating lifelong relationships, in particular with Cathy Aspinell, Brenda Plohman and Dick Hiebert. Special thanks to Dr. David Crawford, Dr. A. Maksymiuk and Jennifer Dunsford, Dr. A. Leylek and Debbie Scott, and numerous other staff and volunteers at CancerCare Manitoba, in particular Melanie and Winnipeg Home Care staff, in particular Emelita, Marcia, and Maria.
