Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySTEPHEN (STEVE) BOYKO It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Steve Boyko on August 14, 2007, at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 83 years. Steve is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sophie; his daughters, Linda and husband Terry McDonald and Bev and husband Bob DeGrave; his grandsons, Chris McDonald and Kyle and Garett DeGrave; his sister Kay; his brother John; and numerous nieces and nephews. Steve was predeceased by his parents Nyckola and Anna; his brother Peter Boyko; his sister Mary Shore; an infant brother Bill; and his granddaughter Suzanne McDonald. Steve was born in Komarno on January 8, 1924, where he grew up and worked on the family farm. He enlisted in the Second World War in 1942. He served for the Royal Winnipeg Rifles known as the Little Black Devils, 3rd Canadian Infantry Division up to 1946. In 1948 he married Sophie. After trying various jobs, he settled at the CNR where he worked till he took early retirement in 1987. He enjoyed a long and fulfilling retirement. His interests included carpentry, fishing, hunting and planting his many gardens - his and at both daughters' places. Steve was a loving husband, a proud father, thoughtful father-in-law, devoted grandfather and helpful neighbour. He was a generous giving man, always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a Mr. Handyman/Mechanic who could fix a toaster to repair a car to build a garage. Steve was eager to teach his skills to his sons-in-law and grandsons. He was a devoted grandfather who was involved with his grandsons from attending their sports games to helping them in every way he could. His grandsons will never forget him for that. Steve touched many lives and we will miss him tremendously. The family extends their sincere thanks to Dr. Husarewycz for his tireless care, together with the many phone calls, and to the caring staff on the fifth floor at Seven Oaks Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Association of Manitoba. Pop as he was known by for many, will be sadly missed, but he gave his family a legacy of memories that will never be forgotten and will remain in our hearts forever. At the family's request, a private graveside service has taken place with interment at Brookside Cemetery. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
