JOHN LESTER BROWN November 17, 1922 - August 16, 2007 Peacefully on August 16, 2007, John passed away at the Grace Hospital at the age of 84. He was predeceased by his first wife Lillian Brown, stepdaughter Leona Steer, brother Jake, and sister Dorothy Johnson. John is survived by his wife Julie Brown, six stepdaughters, Rita (Jerome) Stammen, Libby (Scotty) Lesperance, Pat (Joe) Baxter, Irene Hnatiuk, Dolly (John) Rose, Val (Larry) Ranseth, 14 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, 16 nieces and nephews, and his brothers, Ike and Bob. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Gwen and Ross, who were always there for him. John served in the army from April 1943 to August 1946 and was proud to be a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He worked for the Canadian National Railway in Dauphin for 21 years until his retirement in 1987. John and Julie made their home in Brandon, MB, and spent many memorable winters in Arizona before moving to Winnipeg in 2004. John loved to golf and enjoyed watching baseball, especially if the Blue Jays were winning. He always welcomed visits from family and we all enjoyed his sense of humour. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten. A service will be held on Monday, August 20, 2007 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with interment and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, Suite 200 - 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 885-9715
