Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN SIDNEY MARTIN March 15, 1923 August 15, 2007 Peacefully, with his family at his side, John passed away on August 15, 2007. Left to mourn and cherish his memory are his wife Lucy; children, Barb (Garry) Davies and grandson Kelvin Burzuik; Patrick (Cheryl) Hygaard and grandchildren, Chelsey, Hailey and Tyler; Dan (Janie) Hygaard and granddaughter Aynsley; Rod (Heidi) Hygaard and grandchildren, Meighan, Geoffrey and Carlene; Matt (Deb) Hygaard and grandchildren, Amanda, Desmond, Ashley and Robyn; Marian (John) Busilla and grandsons, Stuart, Scott and Steven; Pauline (Henry) Napastiuk and grandchildren, Kevin and Janine. Also very special to John were his nephews, Wilfred (Lois) Martin, the late Ralph (Roberta) Martin, Lloyd (Lois) Martin and their families. John was predeceased by his first wife Marge and second wife May; grandson Brock Kosack; parents Jack and Mabel and his siblings, Bill, Lottie, Kate, Jim, Clifford and Frank. John was born and raised in East Selkirk where he farmed the Martin Homestead until moving to Selkirk in 2005. He was a millwright at Manitoba Rolling Mills where he was employed for 23 years. John was a lifelong, active Knox Church member. Hobbies included curling and gardening as well as caring for his pet dogs and feeding the farm cats! He was a wonderful husband, father and friend. The light of his life were his grandchildren. His strength of character, compassion and sense of humour touched us all. A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 20 at 1:30 p.m. in the Knox Presbyterian Church with Reverend Dr. George Shillington officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Knox Presbyterian Church, 341 Eveline Street, Selkirk, MB, R1A 1N1 or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4G2. Many thanks and great appreciation to all the staff at Tudor House in Selkirk who cared for John. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
