HILDA KARPOFF (ROSENTRETER) December 2, 1926 - August 15, 2007 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. Philippians 1:21 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Hilda: wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory her devoted husband, Albert; children: Ken (Nancy), Terri, Don, Karen (daughter-in-law); Grandchildren: Tracey, Jay (Colleen), Zane, Payton and Riley and great-grandson Isaiah; sister Selma, brothers Bob (Giselle), Allan, Henry (Val) and sister-in-law Tillie, many nieces, nephews and many special friends. She was predeceased by her parents and brother Ed. The accidental death of her son Jim was the saddest day of her life. Her faith in God and the hope of seeing him again, was a source of comfort and strength during her time of grief. When Mom was one, her family immigrated to Canada from Poland. They lived on a farm in the Swan River area where she attended school. Mom accepted Jesus as her Saviour in her early childhood. She was baptized at the age of thirteen and had a desire to study the Bible. This dream became a reality when at the age of eighteen she spent two years at a Bible School in Edmonton. Then she moved to Winnipeg where she found employment. It was during this time that she met Ab, the love of her life, whom she married on April 14, 1950. They settled in Rivercrest where they raised their four children. Mom was a creative homemaker. She had many hobbies and was always busy baking, gardening, sewing or making a gift for someone. During their retirement they moved to Fort Garry Place. Here they made many new friends and enjoyed playing cards, travelling and singing in a senior choir. Her grandchildren quickly became her pride and joy as she proudly and lovingly told friends about their accomplishments. The family wishes to thank Brenda, the homecare staff and the palliative care staff and the St. Boniface Hospital for their kindness and compassion. A celebration of Mom's life will take place at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street in Winnipeg, on Monday, August 20 at 10:30 a.m. with the reception to follow. Interment will be at Glen Eden following the reception. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba. FRIENDS FUNERAL SERVICE 2146 Main Street 339-5555
