ETHEL ELIZABETH BAKER It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our loving mother and grandmother, Ethel Baker, on Tuesday, August 14, 2007 in Calgary, AB. Ethel will be fondly remembered by her daughter Nancy (Ron) Reynolds of Toronto, her son Ron (Jane) Baker of Calgary, and her three special granddaughters, Katie, Carolyn and Heather. Ethel was born in Kitchener, ON to Ephraim and Annie Weber. She attended school in Kitchener, finishing her high school at Ontario Ladies College in Whitby. Ethel worked for the British Admiralty in Washington, DC for two years during the Second World War before returning to the University of Toronto to study Physiotherapy. Upon graduation, she worked with war veterans at Westminster Hospital in London, ON and then at the War Memorial Children's Hospital. Ethel married in 1951 and lived in both Sault Ste. Marie and Wawa before moving with her family to Winnipeg in 1958. In Winnipeg, Ethel continued to practice physiotherapy, initially at the Winnipeg Children's Hospital, and then at Deer Lodge Hospital (Department of Veterans Affairs) where she became head of the Physiotherapy Department. Ethel was an active member of Deer Lodge United Church where she made many lifelong friends. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing bridge whenever she could. She also loved to paint and to travel. Ethel volunteered many hours to drive cancer patients to their appointments. In 2003, Ethel moved to Calgary. Ethel loved life and participated in it fully. Ethel was predeceased by her parents, her brother Bruce Weber, and her sister Lois Whitney. Ethel will be laid to rest with her parents in Kitchener. If friends so desire, memorial donations in Ethel's name may be made to a charity of their choice. Arrangements entrusted to Leyden's Funeral Home, Reception and Cremation Centre, 304 18th Avenue SW Calgary. Tel: 403-228-4422 www.leydens.com.
