MURIEL ELLEN LEIGHTON (nee SHANKS TOLLICK) On August 11, 2007, Muriel Leighton passed away quietly at the age of 85 years. Born in Winnipeg, she married Joseph (Joe) Leighton in 1944 at St. Paul's United Church. She raised her family in Winnipeg, Toronto and Edmonton. Muriel's lifelong interests included music and helping others. She will be remembered as a generous and committed volunteer, who gave selflessly to her church and community, including 46 years service with the Canadian Red Cross. Muriel will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her son Neil (Lydia); her daughter, Joanne (Len); also seven grandchildren, Christine (Emile), James, Caylee, Darren, Jenelle, Kendall and Connor; two great-grandchildren, Zachery and Brooke; three sisters, Charlotte, Thelma, and Maureen, as well as numerous family and friends. Muriel was predeceased by Joe, her loving husband of 58 years. A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Church (8810 Meadowlark Road) on Saturday, August 25 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Chris Swaren and Reverend Kathy Hogman officiating.
