PAUL JOHN DYZANDRA 1917 - 2007 Beloved and devoted husband of Elizabeth Elsie of 65 years, father of Vance. Paul passed away to his eternal rest on August 18, 2007 at the age of 90 years. Paul was born March 25, 1917 in Transcona, Manitoba. He attended Springfield school in South Transcona. As a Young boy of 17 years; Paul joined the CNR A gym and under the guidance of the late Scottie Thompson he entered the field of Amateur Boxing. In 1937, Paul won the Manitoba Welterweight title. In 1938 the Manitoba Middleweight title and in 1939 Paul won the Dominion of Canada title. Shortly after Paul turned professional and was the first to bring a Championship to Transcona. With his manager the late Harry Ranchie they toured the U.S.A.. After 25 succesful pro fights Paul returned to Canada and enlisted in the R.C.A. F in 1941. On August 16, 1942, Paul and Elsie were married. Paul received his discharge in 1945 and started to work at the C.N.R Shops in Transcona as a welder. He retired in 1981 with 36 years of service. Retirement meant travel and they toured across Canada, The U.S.A., trips to Las Vegas, Hawaii, Mexico, Cuba and winter cruises to the Carribean. Paul was a member of the C.N.R. Pensioners Association of Manitoba, Transcona Legion #7, Kilcona Masonic Lodge #183, Worshipful Master of Transcona Masonic Lodge in 1968, Past First Principal of Transcona Chapter #16 of the Royal Arch Masons of Manitoba in 1968, Paul also was a member of the Khartum Temple, as a Shiriner and he was a Life Member of the Past Masters Club. Paul was a former member of the Shrine Flag Patrol and Khartum Ruff Riders and the Scottish Rite. Paul was predeceased by his infant son Robert; his parents, John and Dorthy; sisters, Stella, Jesse and Anne and brother William. Besides his loving wife Elsie, Paul is survived by son Vance and his family in Vancouver, BC, nieces and nephews across Canada and very special people God-daughter Connie LeBlanc and her husband Ivan. A Masonic Memorial and Legion Last Post Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, August 23, Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Interment will follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will be held following the service in the reception centre. We extend our deep appreciation and thanks to the caring staff on the 5th floor at Poseidon Care Centre for the Care and respect they provided Paul. Also, the dining room staff on the main floor and the many others who came to assist. A sincere thank you to all of you for your time and kindess.
