JOHN (JACK) LESLIE ISAAC Peacefully on Sunday, August 19, 2007 at the Portage District General Hospital, John Jack Leslie Isaac, beloved husband of Doris passed away at the age of 86 years. A private family service will be held at a later date. Jack was born on August 14, 1921 son of Leslie and Alice Isaac at Eston, SK. The family moved to Calgary where he received his elementary education, and completed his high school in Edmonton. While in Edmonton, he played hockey with the E.A.C.'s and they won the provincial championship in 1936 to 1937. He then played Junior Hockey with the E.A.C. and won several Western Canadian Championships. He then joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served overseas in England and served in West Africa returning to England here he was in charge of three squadrons. Returning to Canada in 1944 and receiving his discharge in 1945 at Ottawa, he then returned to Winnipeg. In 1948 he married Doris Zenick and they made their home in Portage la Prairie where they raised their family. Here he was employed as a public accountant and operated his own business for 49 years. Jack was a longtime member of the A.N.A.F. Unit 13 and received his 50 year membership pin in 1998. He served as the club's accountant for many years. He was also a member of the Portage Lions Club for 13 years, and the Portage Rotary Club for over 25 years. He was a member of the Portage Curling Club and won the championship while curling with Vern Watson, and a member of the Portage Golf Club, teaching golf for over 17 years. He enjoyed bowling, and in 1948 to 1949 won the city 5 pin championship. Jack coached fast ball for several years and the team won the Manitoba Fast Ball Championship. He also was the manager of the Para-mutual for the Harness racing in Manitoba and also received a plaque for his many years service for the Harness racing Committee. Predeceased by his brothers, Bill and Jim; sister Patricia Newman, he leaves to mourn his passing his wife Doris, his son John (Kathy) of Winnipeg, grandchildren, Heather (Neil) Grover, Christopher (Angie), Michael (Wendy) and great-grandchildren, Zachary and Annika. Also surviving is sister-in-law Vicki Isaac of Montreal and several nieces and nephews.
