CHARLES BARRY GORDON (LIEUTENANT-COLONEL, RETIRED) It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Charles Barry Gordon on Sunday, August 19, 2007 at the age of 60 years. Barry is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Dorothy Evelyn McColl, his parents, Charles and Margaret (McBride) Gordon, his sister Karen and brothers, Bruce and Scott, his sons, Michael and James, and his beloved granddaughter Julia. Barry was born in Prince Albert, SK on May 18, 1947. He joined the R.C.A.F. in 1965 as a telecommunications technician and served in a variety of positions before being Commissioned as a Communications Engineering Officer in 1971. During his Regular Force career he was posted to Winnipeg, Shilo, Portage la Prairie, Edmonton, Trenton, Ottawa and Vancouver. He retired from the Regular Force in 1995 and joined the Air Reserve in 1998. His positions with the Air Reserve included the 17 Wing Winnipeg Air Reserve Flight Commander, A1 Reserve Personnel and the Air Reserve Coordinator Western Area. He achieved the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 2001. Barry retired from the Air Force in 2006 to accept a position with the University of Manitoba. He maintained his relationship with the Canadian Forces at the University of Manitoba as the continuing education coordinator. He truly enjoyed his 39 years in the Air Force and he always found the time to help anyone who needed his assistance. Barry was well known within the Manitoba running community for his ability and especially for his enthusiasm for the sport and encouragement of others. At the time of his passing, Barry was running the Ron Melnichuk Half Marathon, doing what was his passion in life. He had recently qualified for the Boston Marathon which had been a life-long goal. He will be deeply missed by his family, fellow runners and many friends.
