HOWARD ILLTYD WILLIAMS March 21, 1926 - August 16, 2007 With great sadness we announce the passing of Howard (Red) Williams. Howard passed away peacefully with his family at his side listening to his favourite welsh choirs, bagpipe music and the sharing of memories. His passing followed a wonderful Shamray family reunion in Kenosee, Saskatchewan, the long weekend in August. Born in Pontypridd, Wales to James and Gertrude Williams (predeceased) they, together with his older brother Noel (predeceased), immigrated to Winnipeg in 1929. Howard proudly served with the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War and remained a navy man through The Naval Vets Association. After the war, his career with C.P.R. spanned over 40 years, starting in Winnipeg, with transfers to Calgary, Toronto and Vancouver. Howard retired in 1987 as Purchasing Agent for Pacific Region. In retirement he enjoyed his many treasures . First and foremost was his family, Howard looked forward to having the family together and sharing in the news of what his grandchildren were up to. They were always a source of pride and amusement to him. His love of the navy and railroad was evident through his collection of historical books, maps, videos and memorabilia. He loved music, especially choirs, bagpipe and marching bands which resonated through the house and sometimes the neighbourhood. He and wife Pearl also enjoyed many trips together, especially the cruises and bus trips. Howard will always remain alive in the happy memories of his family, extended family and friends. His steadfast loyalty, compassion and positive nature touched all who knew him. Much loved he will be dearly missed by Pearl (Shamray) his beloved wife of 55 years, son Brian (Maureen) Williams (North Vancouver), daughters, Catherine (predeceased John Wimbush) Williams (Calgary), Joanne (Lindsay) Bradwell (North Vancouver). His cherished grandchildren, Megan and Jeffrey Williams, Michael, David and John Howard Williams-Wimbush, Sean and Elise Bradwell. The family thanks the caregivers of Vancouver Coastal Health Authority for their support and caring and the I.C.U. staff at Lionsgate Hospital for their care and consideration during his brief stay. In accordance with Howard's wishes, private family gatherings have been held. We celebrate Howard's life and are grateful always for his presence, now and forever. In lieu of flowers donations to the charity of choice. FIRST MEMORIAL FUNERAL SERVICES
