Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNIKKI SCIAK 1922 - 2007 On August 20, 2007 after a lengthy illness Nikki passed away peacefully at the Concordia Hospital with her family at her side. She was 85. Nikki was born in Czortkow, Poland, February 15, 1922. In 1923, she and her brother George immigrated with their parents, Louise and Nicholas Yachnicki, to Canada, settling in Winnipeg. Nikki was predeceased by her first husband Bill Wizniak in 1965 and her brother George Yachnicki in 1982. In 1970 she married Joseph Sciak. During their marriage they enjoyed many years together at the Bird Lake cottage. They also enjoyed 10 pin bowling at Chateau Lanes. Left to cherish her memory along with Joseph are her son William Eugene Wizniak (Diane); daughter Louise Ferris (Bill); grandchildren, William Walter Wizniak (Trisha), Marni Grabowski (Blaine), Erin Ferris, Colleen Weighell (Chris); brother-in-law, Bill Sciak, great-grandchildren, Kevin and Lisa Grabowski, Connor and Laura Wizniak. Nikki was a hairdresser and for many years owned and operated her own shop on Sargent Avenue. Nikki was a accomplished pianist and graduated from the London School of Music. She also played the mandolin. In the 1970s she became a member of the Association of United Ukrainian Canadians (A.U.U.C.) orchestra and choir, and later became the director and conductor of the group. Nikki was also a talented composer and arranger. The orchestra played many popular compositions in addition to Nikki's own compositions. The orchestra and choir performed in concert halls throughout Western Canada. In her spare time, Nikki enjoyed needlepoint and completed many projects, some which were her own design. The family thanks the nurses and staff at Concordia Hospital for their kindness and compassionate care. In accordance with Nikki's wishes cremation has taken place and a graveside family service was held at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. If friends so desire, donations may be made in her memory to a charity of their choice.
