EVELYN WRIGHT CHRISTIE (nee THOMPSON) January 21, 1923 - August 24, 2007 With her family by her side, Evelyn Christie passed away very peacefully on August 24, 2007. Evelyn was born in Winnipeg to Michael and Jenni Thompson on January 21, 1923. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, her loving husband Duncan Fairlie Christie, her three brothers and their wives, Harvey (Elleane), Leonard (Elva), Norman, and an infant sister Marjorie. Evelyn lived in Old Kildonan and West Kildonan until she moved with Duncan and their children to Hazelridge in 1970 where she made many lifelong friends from the surrounding area. Evelyn loved living on the family cattle farm, feeding the hired men and truckers that came and went through the years and keeping a watchful eye on every day's happenings. In the later days of her life she lived at Middlechurch on the Red which she also loved and made many wonderful friends there as well. Evelyn loved road trips with Duncan and then with friends, exploring and enjoying all that Manitoba and beyond had to offer. It was commonplace for her to call up some friends and say Let's go for a ride with no particular destination in mind. Evelyn also enjoyed knitting and crocheting, reading a good book, baking, designing cards and sending the daily Have a good day, I love you message to her family on her computer. Evelyn was a very generous person and would often bake treats or bring supper to her Middlechurch friends. Evelyn's one true love in her life was her family. Evelyn loved nurturing her family, imparting her wisdom (and opinions) through a story from her past. She was always very proud of any accomplishment, no matter the size. She was a simply beautiful person who was happiest when surrounded by those closest to her. She was a very loving Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother who was always accepting, encouraging and understanding. Everyone knew there was a wonderful warm meal and a loving person with a waiting hug just a phone call away when it was needed most. The best of Evelyn will live on in those left to cherish her, her four children, Duncan, Grace (Sandy), Jim (Elley), and Ross (Ellen). Her grandchildren, Duncan (Joyce), Robin, Tami (Wade), Stacie (Rob), Kirsten, Paula (Carlin), Jillian, Jamie (Crystal), Michael, Tyler (Neil), Cam (Carolyn), Jock, Michael, Matthew, Jaclyn, Jade and Tanner and her great-grandchildren, Mark, Lindsay, Jennifer, Evan, Christopher, Nadja, Kyle, Hillary, Brayden, Brando, Brynn, Braila, Seth, Nolan, Faith, Cole, Ethan, Shaye and Neil. Evelyn loved to tell people how many grandchildren and great-grandchildren she had, nothing made her prouder. Thank you to Dr. Zieler and staff at the Beausejour General Hospital, staff of the Middlechurch Personal Care Home, Dr. Moncek and staff of the Seven Oaks General Hospital. Your care and compassion is gratefully appreciated. Interment at Kildonan Presbyterian Cemetery, 2373 Main Street, West Kildonan on Thursday, August 30, 2007 at 12:30 p.m. A service will follow at the Oakbank United Church, 582 Balsam Crescent, Oakbank, MB at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to a charity of your choice.
