PETER SLYKER Peter Slyker, husband of the late Cornelia, passed away on August 24, 2007, at Selkirk, Manitoba, at the age of 91 years. Peter is survived by his sister Janet (Joe) Groen, as well as his children Reina, Marja (Bill), Alex (Tracy), Paul (Joanne), Henry (Vera) and Peter. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Peter came to Canada from Sint Pancras, Netherlands, with his wife and two daughters in 1948. Later years produced four sons in his new country. Peter's great passion was his garden and the quality of the produce that he grew. He was widely known for his sweet corn and juicy carrots! Peter kept a herd of goats for a number of years on his River Road property. The goats were a big attraction for the people of Selkirk and surrounding area. After losing his wife of 59 years, Peter lost a great deal of his zest for life. Red River Place was where he lived the last few months. We wish to thank the facility very much for their care of our father. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 30 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Selkirk with Pastor Maurice Yurkiw officiating.
