JOHN GEORGE BOWLES (CHUCK, JACK, J.G.) On Saturday, August 25, 2007, at the St. Boniface Hospital, John passed away after 89 years. Remaining to forever cherish John's memory are his daughter-in-law Beverley; grandson Derek; granddaughters Carrie and Leigh-Anne; great-grandchildren; as well as his own, the Neish family. He was predeceased by his wife Eleanor; daughter Joan; son Douglas; brothers Ted and Bert and sister-in-law Mary. Born in Virden, Manitoba, in 1918 to parents Enos and Ethyl, John was raised in Winnipeg. He worked and resided mostly in the St. James area where he hauled coal and delivered bread until he spent 38 years working for CN rail. John was very proud and dedicated to his work and his family (including their pets). In his later years, John was a caretaker, helped neighbours with their errands, and actively recycled. John loved trains (specifically CN), trips to Kelowna, playing cards, the slots, time at Neish's cottage, watching the game, bingo, arguing politics, shopping for bargains and driving through his old routes. John's funeral service will be held on Friday, August 31 at 11:00 a.m. in St. James Anglican Church, 195 Collegiate Street, with The Venerable Fletcher Stewart, presider. Special thanks to Dr. Fletcher, Dr. Simonsen and the team at the Ambulatory clinic, and homecare support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3E 0V9.
