Date of Passing: Aug 27, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARIA ALFONSINA (SINA) GIARDINO (nee PESCE) Born April 15, 1920, in Filandari, Italy Deceased August 27, 2007 It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful calling home of our beloved Mother, Sina. Predeceased by her husband Pasquale and their beloved son Charlie, her parents Antonio and Rosaria Pesce, brothers Carlo, Nino and Antonio. Mother leaves to celebrate her life, her children John (Edna), Rose Lyman, Carlo (Rosanna) and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Redston. Mother was a proud and loving Nonna to her 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mother is also survived by her sister Nina Serreti, sister-in-law Itala Pesce, and brothers Michele and Vincenzo Pesce. Like many of her era, Sina grew up knowing the many hardships including the loss of her son at an early age. Working long hours over the stove or at her sewing machine, knitting, crocheting anything that would keep her hands busy. This contributed to creating a woman who understood the value of a dollar and hard work. A woman who had the fortitude to stick things out when life got tough and who appreciated the many gifts of life. The gifts she treasured the most were her grandchildren. Mom loved to be in the company of her family and friends and they in turn enjoyed her spirit, her smile and her kind heart. In later years when physical activities became somewhat of a challenge she took that on too - never giving up. Special thanks to the staff at Riverview Health Centre for making Mother comfortable in her final moments. La tua morte inattesa e rapida lascia un gran vuoto fra tutti coloro che ti amarono. Nel loro animo sarĂ sempre vivo il tuo ricordo. We leave our Mother in the eternal care of God's love and mercy. Please God, grant her the peace she sought. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, August 30 at 11:00 a.m. with viewing at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave. Entombment will follow at the Chapel of Eternal Memories Mausoleum, 1501 Waverley Street. Honorary pallbearer will be Tony Pesce and the pallbearers will be her grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200 - 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
