Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBERYL MARY AITKEN (nee HIDDLESTON) May 15, 1919 - August 25, 2007 It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Beryl Mary Aitken after a short illness, on Saturday, August 25, 2007. Beryl was predeceased by her husband Norris in 2001, her daughter Norrie Ann in 1977, her son George in 1946, her great-grandson Travis in 1990, her sisters Joyce Loxton and Betty Ward and her parents Tom and Kate Hiddleston. Beryl will be missed by her children, Mary Quick of Dauphin, Joan Nadolny (Barry) of Dauphin, Beth Monson (Tom) of Dauphin, Helen Ritzer (Ted) of Edmonton, Allan Aitken (Raven) of Winnipeg and Dawne Aitken of Ottawa. She also lives on in the memories of all her 22 grandchildren (14 grandsons and 8 granddaughters), and her 13 great-grandchildren, all of whom she thoroughly enjoyed watching as they grew up. Beryl also leaves to remember her, her sister Peggy Hiddleston in Winnipeg, her sister-in-law Lil Aitken of Roblin, and numerous nephews and nieces all across the country. Beryl was born in Leatherhead, Surrey, England, on May 15, 1919. She immigrated to Canada with her family when she was three years old. They settled in Winnipeg where she received all of her schooling. She went to Ottawa in 1939 and worked at a secretarial position for a year. In 1942 she was married in Winnipeg to Norris George Aitken of Roblin. They lived in Lariviere until 1946, when they moved to Dauphin where they raised seven children. They moved to Winnipeg in 1993. Beryl was active at St. Paul's Anglican Church, often with youth groups such as Junior Auxiliary. She curled and bowled, and enjoyed raising purebred dogs. She was an accomplished seamstress and sewed and knit for her family and others for many years. Beryl and Norris had a open-door policy for all their grown children, grandchildren, friends of these, or just anyone who needed a place to call home. They were foster parents and home parents to many thankful young people throughout the years. The family wishes to thank the staff at Deer Lodge Centre and Grace Hospital for their understanding care and for treating our Mum with respect and dignity. Mum always said she wanted us to have a party for her after she left this world. So, CHEERS, Mum. After six years you're with Dad again. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. from St. Paul's Anglican Church in Dauphin. Interment will follow in the Dauphin Riverside Cemetery at 7:00 p.m. where Beryl will be laid to rest next to Norris and near Norrie Ann. Pallbearers will be grandsons William, Peter, Michael, Eric, Daniel, Myles, and Matthew. Urnbearers will be granddaughters Suzanne, Michelle, Heather, Devon, Mirela, Kakeka, Thaegwan, and Sakata. Soloist will be Devon Saulis, and the eulogy will be delivered by Allan Aitken. If friends so wish, they may donate to the CNIB, Parkinson's Society, Alzheimer's Society, Foster Parents Plan, or any charity of their choice.
