Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELIZABETH (ELSIE) SUMKA (nee WALASHEK) October 5, 1919 - August 26, 2007 Peacefully with her family at his side, our Mom passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2007, at Kin Place Personal Care Home in Oakbank, Manitoba. She will be sadly missed by her children Marion (Walter) Liebenau, Ron (Helen), Jim, Barbara (Chris) Magnusson, Carol (Daniel) Chaszewski, and Jean (Wayne) Johnson; grandchildren and great-grandchildren Harold (Darlene) Liebenau and Tyler and Cody, Christine (Bob) Loster and Caitlyn, Jeffrey (Cheryl) Liebenau and Chantal and Courtney, Glenda Sumka (Donny) and Jared, Kevin (Natalie) Sumka, Kerry Sumka (Randy) and Ashley, Darrell Sumka and Brook, Michelle Sumka (Brett), Tiffany Sumka, Jennifer Gabrielson (Cliff) and Katherine, Kyle Magnusson and Matthew, Arthur Chaszewski, Leslie (Krista) Chaszewski, Terence Chaszewski, Steven (Nina) Johnson and Tatyana, Reanna, Serenity, and Patience, Andrew Johnson, and Michael Johnson. She will also be sadly missed by her sisters Mary Troschuk and Helen Bazilewich and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Mike, parents Andrew and Caroline Walashek, brothers John, Charlie, and Joe and sister Annie. Elsie was born in Zbaraz, Manitoba. She met Mike Sumka and married him on November 7, 1941. They lived on a farm in Poplarfield, Manitoba, where they raised their six children. Elsie stayed on the farm until she moved into the Arborg Personal Care Home in November 2003. In August 2006 she moved to Kin Place Personal Care Home in Oakbank, Manitoba. Prayers were held on Thursday, August 30 at 7:30 p.m. at Arborg (MacKenzie) Funeral Chapel in Arborg. Funeral service will be held on Friday August 31 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Ukrainian Catholic Church in Arborg, MB. Interment to follow at the Hamrlik Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Kyle Magnusson, Arthur Chaszewski, Jeffrey Liebenau, Kevin Sumka, Darrell Sumka, and Michael Johnson. Honorary pallbearers are the rest of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Kin Place Personal Care Home for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200 - 310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB; CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9; or Kin Place Personal Care Home, Oakbank, MB.
