IRENE KATHLEEN KOWAL SMITH March 22, 1965- August 29, 2007 With great sorrow we announce the sudden passing of Irene Smith, beloved wife of Kyle, cherished daughter of John and the late Elsa Kowal, loving sister to Steffie and Vera, beloved daughter-in-law of Ruth and George Smith. Remaining to cherish her memory are brothers-in-law, Richard Szczepanski, Craig Smith and Larry Karpiak; nieces and nephews, Bradley, Dale, Paula, Vanessa and Andrew. Irene's early years began in Garden City. She attended R.F. Morrison School and graduated from Garden City Collegiate. Irene obtained her B.A. at the University of Winnipeg, majoring in criminology. Irene was employed at the Remand Centre for over 20 years where she had many friends and close ties with her co-workers. Irene moved to Stonewall and built her first home. During this time she met Kyle. They were married on April 22, 2006, and lived in Riverbend. Irene will be deeply missed and was an inspiration to us all. The family would like to thank the emergency and SICU units at Health Sciences Centre for their care and compassion during this difficult time. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 4 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to organizations Irene supported: The Canadian Diabetes Society in memory of Irene's mother and the Winnipeg Humane Society. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
