ZENON (ZENNY) PAUL MELNYCHUK March 15, 1939 - August 31, 2007 Peacefully, on Friday, August 31, 2007, Zenny passed away at Fred Douglas Lodge in Winnipeg. He leaves behind his loving wife, Nina (Kiesman); his daughter Barb (Peter); his sons, Brad (Sylvie), Ron (Karen) and Doug (Teresa); his grandchildren, Melissa (Chris), Amie (William), Michael and Magdalena; his sisters, Ollie (Bill) and Sophie (Norrie), his step-son Tom (Margret); his step-daughters, Janice (Ken) and Debbie (Lyle); step-grandchildren, Heidi (Jason), Mandy (Jay), Liam and Lindsey, step-great-grandchildren, Rayne and Jaeden, Kyla, Victoria; his first wife, Theresa and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Annie Melnychuk in 1995. Zenny was born in the home of his parents on the family farm near Balmoral, MB where he grew up and later raised his own children with his first wife, Theresa. During this time, Zenny tried his hand at a few different occupations, often more than one at a time. He operated the family farm as a mixed farming operation growing crops, raising beef cattle, pigs, chickens and finally running it as a dairy farm. He was well-known in the community for his self-taught mechanical skills and assisted many neighbours to repair their farm equipment. He loved his farm dogs Sandy, Sparky, Cupcake and Dixie and his big old tomcats Tiger and Buster and always enjoyed telling stories about them. He also enjoyed organizing gatherings in celebration of birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions for family and friends. Zenny drove a school bus for Interlake School Division for many years and had fond memories of the many students he transported. Always up for a new challenge, he also tried his hand at running Zenny's Restaurant in Teulon and worked as a municipal councillor. Zenny also enjoyed much involvement in the local community including 4-H, Curling, Hall Board and Board of Stewards for the United Church to name a few. After selling the farm, in 1993, Zenny moved to Winnipeg where he took a part-time job at Walmart as a greeter, until they discovered that he had mechanical skills. Then they depended on him to assemble all manner of equipment. His job at Walmart and his love of dancing led him to meet and marry Nina, who loved and cared for him and gave him great joy throughout the many health challenges that plagued him during their life together. A celebration of Zenny's life will be held at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Teulon on Wednesday, September 5 at 10:30 a.m. with interment to follow at Victoria Cemetery. According to Zenny's wishes, please join family and friends for a gathering at Balmoral Hall immediately following interment. In lieu of flowers donations to MB 4-H Foundation, 1129 Queens Avenue, Brandon, MB R7A 1L9 or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Teulon in care of arrangements 467-2525.

  • DAD, YOU LIVE ON I remember when you played with us I remember when you joked with friends, The fun it was when you did. I remember when you bought us bicycles, Then our motorcycles and snowmobiles. The fun we had when you did. Dad, I remember when you took us swimming, When you played catch with a baseball, When you took us to hockey, and 4H-club. The fun we had when you did. Dad, I noticed when you took a stranger in. Dad, I noticed when you helped an old man who’d gone homeless. Dad, when my friends were there you treated them like me. And dad, I noticed your participation in the community. And time went on dad, I have noticed that, now, we, your kids, do those things Now, we help a stranger. And yes, we play with the kids. Now, we buy our kids bicycles, mini-bikes, cars. And we are part of our community and clubs. You see dad, people live on through each other. People never really pass away. They do, maybe in body, but then there is what they did that remains. Their creations, their teachings, dad, these continue on and on. So Dad, my message to you Is that you taught us well. We copied your examples. And now you live on, through us, dad. Yes, you do and thus you do live on, and on. Do well where you are now Dad. And, because of you, we too will do well where we are now. And we will know you are with us all the way.
