ARCHIE MURRAY WAGNER 1925 2007 On August 31, at Grace Hospice, peacefully with family at his side, after a year's battle with cancer. He will be sorely missed by his longtime, loving partner Marie Peters; his son Murray (Leona); his daughter Karen (Harry) and grandchildren Erika and Thomas; and extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his first wife Wilma (nee Munt) in 1969 and his second wife Margaret (nee Maxwell) in 1984 and by his brother Gordon in 1987. Archie was born on August 12 in Inglis, Manitoba to Conrad and Emily (nee Freise), the oldest of three brothers, Wilbert being the youngest. The family moved to the north end of Winnipeg when he was young. Archie was very sociable and had natural leadership skills. He was on student council at Isaac Newton High School; was active in Luther League, attending an international conference; served as vice-president of his union local; taught Sunday school; and was a Scout leader. He was also a long-time member of the Assiniboine Unit ANAF Local 283. In the post-war years he and a few of his friends bought army surplus Harley-Davidsons which they rode for a few years. He sold his bike to buy Wilma's engagement ring. Archie worked for the Winnipeg Electric Company, later Winnipeg Transit, as a machinist for over 35 years. He built one of the first tent trailers to be seen in Manitoba campgrounds from plans in Popular Mechanics. Thereafter he led countless family camping trips to the Whiteshell and elsewhere and tried his best to catch fish from his homemade boat. He and Margaret enjoyed their cottage in the Whiteshell and several annual trips to Hawaii. With Marie, he spent fifteen winters at their coach in Sebring, Florida. They were key participants in the social scene there and were feted with a parade through the trailer park when they left in 2004. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division. The family would like to extend appreciation to the staff of the Riverview Health Centre and Grace Hospice. Memorial service to be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 265 Flora Avenue at King Street, 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 5, reception to follow. Private interment later. neil bardal inc 949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
