CHARLES WILLIAM IVES 1915 - 2007 At Charles' request, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal or memorial service. Charlie will be remembered most lovingly by his wife Mollie-Irene and daughter Barbara Irene Whitla (Douglas); two grandsons, Todd (Laurel), Robb (Heather) and four great-grandchildren, Madison and Brett, Shane and Quinn, also many many friends and acquaintances from his tenure at Eatons, The Bay and Squash Clubs. During Charles' entire career, junior players and ladies were given special tutoring - some still carry on! This frequently resulted in family squashers and in many cases the third generation of the same family. Charlie's Boys revered him - touched so many hearts - more much more than this, he did it his way! Born in 1915 in Fulham, London, England, he began his wonderful career as ball-boy at Wimbledon and became the junior professional by the time he was 18. He arrived in Winnipeg in 1934 from Queens' Club, London, England. He taught at the Winter Club and Squash Racquet Club and in 1977 joined the Carleton Club. In recognition of his lifetime commitment, he was presented with the Queens' Silver Jubilee Medal and made a Honourary Citizen of Winnipeg in 1984; also an Honourary member of the Jester Club Manitoba. Charles was presented with a plaque naming his coach of the year from both the Manitoba and Canadian Squash Racquet Associations. Charles was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 1986. He was enjoying his recent but not quite complete retirement with Honourary memberships in both the Carleton Club and Squash Club. In 2004 he entered Tuxedo Villa. The family want to thank the excellent staff of Tuxedo Villa for their comfort and exceptional loving care and kindness. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Charles' memory to a charity of one's choice. Informal gathering will be held at the Winnipeg Squash Racquet Club, 275 Stradbrook Avenue, on September 11, 2007 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. There is no time, only change. What was , still is. • I was just researching my Uncle having found a photograph in my Mother's things. If this message is sent to his family, I would be very interested in being in touch. I am the youngest son of his youngest brother. Thank you. - Posted by: Allen Ives (Nephew) on: Jul 19, 2020
