IRENE MAKI 1912 2007 Irene passed away peacefully at Tuxedo Villa, Saturday, September 1, 2007 at the age of 95. She was predeceased by her husband Swen, her mother and father, Alexandrina and William Smith; two brothers, Jim and Doug Smith and two sisters, Mabel Watkins and Isabel Limin. She is survived by one sister, Margaret Sinclair of Kelowna, numerous nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews. Irene was an accomplished pianist and organist. She earned her Concert Pianist diploma, an achievement she was very proud to have made. After her marriage to Swen, they lived in Atikokan, Ontario for many years. During these years, she and Swen (also an accomplished musician) played almost every weekend at dances, weddings, etc. Irene told many wonderful, amusing stories of being a pioneer woman in Atikokan. How she shoveled snow off of her roof ( in her 80's!), chased away a stray bear from her doorstep, went boating and flying to various local islands in Swen's private plane. She really grew to love her life around the lake. Upon her return to Winnipeg, Irene resided at the Eastern Star Chalet, where she made many new friends. We would like to extend a very special thank-you to the staff at Tuxedo Villa for their warm, caring attention to our Aunt while she resided there. Irene was a special lady and she will be missed. Funeral Services will be held at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 7, 2007. Interment will occur at Brookside Cemetery. On line condolences may be made at RWPETER@TELUS.NET. Thomson Funeral Home 669 Broadway 783-7211
