EDMOND JOSEPH (TINOIR) GUERTIN
Date of Passing: Sep 01, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDMOND JOSEPH (TINOIR) GUERTIN It is with great heartfelt sadness we announce the sudden, but peaceful passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend at the Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg on September 1, 2007 at the age of 76. Ed was predeceased by his loving parents Samuel and Rose (née Dorge) and his sister Yvette Manness. He will be deeply and sadly missed by his loving wife of 53 years, Margaret (Dusessoy), his son Michael (Lynne), grandchildren Samuel and Dominic and daughter Monique (Pierre). Born in Ste-Agathe, Manitoba, Ed worked side by side with his father at their John Deere dealership. At the young age of 17, Ed signed his own contract becoming the third generation of Guertins with John Deere Limited. In 1961, Ed opened the shop on the south Perimeter Highway in St. Vital, where to this day, remains family owned and family run by the fourth generation. This very dedicated businessman managed to take some time off to enjoy RVing, camping and fishing with his family, then years later, lake life at Clearwater Bay. He spent many fall seasons at Buffalo Point where he enjoyed hunting with his family and many friends in the surrounding area. Never admitting to retirement, Ed popped into the office on a daily basis. Joining the snowbird club , Ed and Margaret enjoyed many winter seasons golfing and relaxing in Palm Springs, CA. Ed, a close associate of Father Ron Leger, assisted in establishing Ron's Drop-in Centre in St.Vital, later named Teen Stop Jeunesse. He served on the board of St. Boniface Hospital Foundation for many years. He was currently active with the St. Vital/St. Boniface Kiwanis club. Ed recently resigned from the board of the St. Amant Foundation; however, this did not deter his passion for fundraising. He was a true believer in the importance of improving the lives of Manitobans with developmental disabilities. His continuous perseverance to this great cause helped St. Amant raise funds to finance the ongoing Overhead Lifts Project and The Buhler Reflective Gardens . The Foundation recently honoured Ed with the title of Ambassador of St. Amant. Our family would like to give special thanks to the ICU staff at the Victoria General Hospital, especially to Lori and Janice for their care and compassion to our family during this trying time. In keeping with Ed's wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration Ed's life will be held on Thursday, September 6 at 11:00 a.m., in the Parish of St. Timothy, 135 John Forsyth Road in River Park South with Father Phil Daley officiating with co-celebrants Father Patrick Morand and Father Ron Leger. A private family interment will follow at a later date. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Robert Manness, Richard Manness, Norman Manness, Gerry Dusessoy, Joanne Talbot, Roger Poitras and Hubert Brodeur. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ed's most passionate project: The St. Amant Foundation Wish List, 444 River Road, R2M 3Z9 (www.stamant.mb.ca) Cher dad, pepère, ce que tu as semé en nous germera.
