FREDERICK J. C. SMART Peacefully on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 our beloved Fred Smart passed away. Fred was born on November 14, 1924 in Winnipeg, MB where he received his schooling. With his older brother Francis, he helped to care for their mother and four other siblings after the untimely death of his father. He spent a few years in the Navy with his naval posting mainly on a corvette ship called the Ville de Quebec . He worked at numerous jobs throughout his life but the majority of his working career was as a draftsman, carpenter and manager. Throughout his life he loved to travel and visited many countries, the most memorable of which was to trace his roots back to Ireland. He was also an avid canoeist and entered many races in his life. Throughout his life he was a devout Catholic and his morals and life principles reflected his faith. Fred loved to spend time at his cottage with his large extended family, dear friends and his loyal pets, most recently his dog, George. He loved building projects, welding, woodcarving and painting. His range of building abilities spanned from his home and cottage, boats, canoes and innovative projects. Fred always had a special place in his heart for animals, his home was always a haven for animals in need of love and shelter. Through his retirement years his artistic ability continued to shine on his loved ones through handmade keepsake gifts. Fred was predeceased by his father Cecil; his mother Kathleen; his sister Jeanne, and brother Francis. He will lovingly be remembered by his sisters, Gladys (Alex) and Dorothy (John); his brother Bob of California and over 40 nieces and nephews. A mass celebrating his life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 6, 2007 at Holy Redeemer Church, 264 Donwood Drive, North Kildonan, Brother Gerald Craig officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society in Fred's name. I sought my soul but my soul I could not see I sought my God but my God excluded me I sought my brother and found all three Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 885-9715
