He was born in Ludomir, by the Polish Russian border. His father died when he was only six months old, and his mother never remarried. Aaron had only five years of formal education, and went to help support the family by working as an apprentice for a distant uncle. At 19 he was the owner of his own successful shoe making and repair business. He, his mother, sister, and brother-in-law Sam Lichtman survived the ghettos in Poland and immigrated to Canada in 1948, landing in Winnipeg. He considered that to be a rebirth, and referred to the event as his second birthday. He married his wife Mary in 1951 and in 1952 he opened a leather garment factory Winnipeg Leather Goods . In 1953 his son Mark was born, followed by his daughter Sylvia in 1955. He owned and operated his company for over 30 years. Aaron was a true survivor, making the best of every moment life gave to him. His favourite expression was make it better which could be heard anytime he was playing cards at the Montefiore Club. Aaron was loved and respected by all who knew him. Aaron was an honest man, with humble beginnings, integrity, and moral conviction. He lost the love of his life in 1993, but continued to live independently until 2000, when an illness took the use of his legs from him. The family would like to thank the caregivers at the Sharon Home for their kind attention given to him for the past seven years. He will be sadly missed and never forgotten. Survived by: his son Mark and wife Elaine Yukelis, his daughter Sylvia, and husband Yossi Schneider of Toronto, his grandchildren: Joshua, Amanda, and Brianna, many nieces and nephews.
