Born: Apr 03, 1925
Date of Passing: Aug 28, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM GRAHAM CALDER In the early morning hours of August 28, 2007, William Graham Calder passed away suddenly at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital. Bill was born April 3, 1925, in Kenora and was predeceased by his wife Georgina (nee Munroe), parents Nora and George Calder, brothers Robert, J.P. and nephew James Rodney. He leaves to mourn his sister-in-law Gail (Dave) Ross, niece Jennifer; brother-in-law Les (Edith) Munroe, nephew Earle; nephews Robert (Maureen) Calder and Duncan (Inger) Calder, great-nephews Sean, Matthew, Scott and Bobby and great-niece Christy. Bill also had a special place in his heart for the children of Dorothy and Don Beach: Jamie, Kim, Laurel and Margaret. During Bill's lifetime he was employed in many areas, selling everything from crackers to cars. He then became manager of Kendo Credit Union until his retirement in 1988. Always important to Bill was his contribution to his community. He was a Past Master of Pequonga 414, a member of the Shrine, Legion, K-40, Past President of the Rotary Club. Years ago, he served on the Housing Board and also held the position of Hydro Commissioner for Kenora. Anyone who knew Bill knew he was a true gentleman, a man of integrity, who valued his family and friends above all. His sense of humour endeared him to those he met from day to day and those who shared his enjoyment for curling, golf and bowling. If the situation arose, he would amuse everyone with his poetry written under the pseudonym of Edgar Allan Poe. In earlier years, he volunteered his time to the organization of golf tournaments and his beloved NCO Bonspiel. After retiring, Bill and wife Georgina enjoyed many winters in Bradenton, Florida; however, the draw of the Lake of the Woods brought them back each spring. Many hours were spent cruising the lake with family and friends on the LuJan under the command of Captain Highliner, usually followed by a picnic on a remote island. The captain was never at a loss for words when educating his guests about points of interest on the lake as they cruised along. At home, he enjoyed the companionship of his pets, most recently Sunshine and Lady Jane. Above all, Bill knew life was short and should be enjoyed to the fullest and proved this up to the point when his mind and body could no longer sustain the desire. The family would like to thank Dr. Sawatzsky and the staff of 3H at Pinecrest for their excellent care and compassion. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at St. Alban's Cathedral on September 11, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will be held upstairs at the Kenora Golf Country Club immediately following the service. Donations in Bill's memory may be made to Pinecrest Home, 3H Ward, or a charity of your choice. Those we love don't go away, They walk beside us every day, Unseen, unheard, but always near, Still loved, still missed and very dear. Brown Funeral Home Cremation Centre, Kenora, entrusted with arrangements.
