Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHOMAS GEORGE READE 1916 - 2007 Peacefully, with his loving daughters at his side, Tom passed away on September 2, 2007 at the age of 91. He was born in Croydon, England on April 21, 1916. Later his family moved to London and then to Whitstable, Kent where he lived until moving to Canada. Tom is predeceased by his loving wife Phyllis, sister Dorothy Knights, sisters-in-law, Helen Tonn and Audrey Tufford, brothers-in-law, Oscar Tonn, Fred Knights and Wally Rigden. He is survived by his daughters, Laurie Reade, Marian (Doug) Young, grandchildren Scott and Megan Young, brother-in-law Fred Tufford and many nieces and nephews and their children. Tom grew up in England and became a carpenter's apprentice at a young age and worked to support his family. Tom met the love of his life when Phyllis Bowley visited England on vacation. He came to Winnipeg and they were married on July 11, 1958 and cherished each other for nearly 45 years. Tom worked for the Winnipeg School Division for 20 years and retired in 1981. Tom enjoyed his home and garden, spending many hours tending to vegetables and maintaining the pool and house. He loved to listen to classical music. His sharp wit and great sense of humour will be well remembered by those close to him. But most of all he cherished immediate and extended family. Many a lively discussion and good time was had at a family gathering. He will be greatly missed. As Tom's health declined, he required constant care. The family would like to send out our heartfelt thanks to all those special people over the past several years. Without their skill and compassion, Tom would not have been able to remain in the home he loved. Special thanks to Wayne, Vanessa and Fran for all their dedication and understanding. We would also like to thank Marilyn, Robert, Roger, David and Ivy for the care they gave Tom at home. We are grateful to the staff at the Grace Hospital who attended to his needs over the past five months and to Dr. Hayward who was the family physician for over two decades. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tom's favourite charity Winnipeg Harvest, 1085 Winnipeg Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0S2. A memorial service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., on Saturday, September 8, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 885-9715
