Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE GRAY DUNCAN MCINTOSH November 26, 1925 - September 3, 2007 George passed away peacefully at the Palliative Care Unit at the Nanaimo General Hospital on Monday with most of his family present. George McIntosh was born in The Pas, MB November 26, 1925. He spent most of his early years in St. James (Winnipeg) MB where he attended Linwood School and St. Paul's College. He played hockey and golf and was a junior curler at Deer Lodge Curling Club. After high school he went to Edmonton for basic training in the Air Force. On his return, he attended university, then joined the army where he trained at Vernon, BC and Dundurn, SK. The Air Force recalled him and he spent 27 years as a navigator in the R.C.A.F. During the 1950s, he and his wife Carolyn went to England with son Duncan. George flew extensively over Europe and North Africa. His eldest daughter Heather was born in England. They returned to Ottawa, where his second daughter Alison was born. Later in the 1960s, he was posted in Comox where his third daughter, Robin was born. His last posting was to Halifax, NS. He retired from the Air Force in 1972. He decided to continue working and applied to British Columbia Forest Products, where he served in personnel and housing management in the northern community of Mackenzie, BC. Again, he was an avid curler and was active in the creation of the golf course. He also served on the Co-op board. After losing his first wife Carolyn, he later remarried an old friend from Winnipeg who had been recently widowed: Marguerite Mitchell (nee Arnold). Marg's grown family of a son and three daughters stayed in Winnipeg, and she and George would visit every two years to the family cottage at Victoria Beach, MB. Through the two families they received 11 grandchildren - six girls and five boys all of whom he was tremendously proud. In 1983 George retired for the second time and he and Marg built a house on Galiano Island, BC. He served on four boards: the golf club, the new Health Centre, the local firefighting and water boards. After spending 17 happy years there they moved to Parksville, BC, closer to his daughter Heather and his only sibling Isabella and her family at Nanoose Bay. Isabella predeceased him in 2005. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff there for their kindness and excellent care. If so desired, a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice may be made in his name. George will be cremated and a memorial service will be held in the near future.
