IRENE (DENEKA) SHAPKIN November 13, 1929 - September 1, 2007 Peacefully, yet suddenly, in her sleep, it is with tremendous sorrow that we announce the passing of Irene Shapkin on Saturday, September 1, 2007, at her home at the age of 77. Remaining to cherish Irene's memory is her closest best friend and sister Anne (Peter), and other siblings Nettie (Len), Olga (Vern), George (Jean) and Matthew as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Irene was predeceased by parents Matthew and Pauline Deneka, husband John Shapkin, brother John (Anne) Deneka and sister-in-law Ellen Deneka. Irene enjoyed living the past few years at Lion's Place where she made new friends due to her outgoing and friendly personality. She continued to volunteer for the Spence Street Thrift Shop (Pregnancy Distress) into her retirement years until the spring due to severe carpal tunnel problems. Don't grieve for me long - I've not left you alone, For I will be with you In the love that we have known, That love is forever, And someday when it's time You'll join me again On the journey of mine. -Anonymous- Memorial service will be held on Monday, September 10, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home.
