HELENE FREUND (nee Hemminger) Helene Freund passed away, peacefully, with her son Allan by her side, at East Gate Lodge Personal Care Home, Beausejour, MB on Wednesday, September 5, 2007, just two days after her 85th birthday. Remaining to cherish her memory are her two sons, Allan (Lorine) and Greg (Renata); six grandchildren, Mark and Jason Freund, Craig Gromnisky, Lisa Gromnisky and her husband Shawn Bresden, Sandra and Sara Freund and one great-granddaughter, Megan. She also leaves to cherish her memory two brothers, Adolf (Selma) and Eric (Wanda) Hemminger; her son-in-law Barry Gromnisky and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Fredrick William (Bill) in 1966, her two daughters Sandra Gromnisky in 1986 and Carol Freund in 2000; her parents Adolf and Karoline Hemminger, her brothers John, Ferdinand, Christof and Louis and her sisters Mary Neumann, Olga Hemminger and Natalie Greenwood. Helene was born on September 3, 1922 in Thalberg, MB. She married Bill Freund in 1941 and together they farmed, like both their parents did, in the Brokenhead District, off highway #317, until 1964. They sold the farm and moved to Winnipeg that year and after our Dad got sick and left her a widow in 1966, she continued to live in that little house on Valour Road, having daughter Sandra finish high school and raising her then seven year old son Greg. In 2004, she became a resident at East Gate Lodge in Beausejour, just down the street from her son Allan and his wife Lorine. My brother Greg and I have wonderful memories of a most loving, compassionate and caring lady, a mother who loved her children and grandchildren with a passion. She lost her husband and both her daughters far, far too early and yet never lost her faith in her God and her Lord and Saviour. She loved to sing (oh, how she loved music), loved to dance, loved her daily crossword puzzles and loved to reminisce with us and sister Nettie on the growing up days with friends and relatives. Oh, precious mother, we will dearly miss you. Mom's funeral service will be held on Monday, September 10, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 403 First St. N. Beausejour, MB, with Pastor Hugh Laidlaw officiating. There will be viewing prior to the service. Interment will follow in the St. John's Lutheran Church Greenwald Cemetery, next to her husband Bill. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mom's memory, may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald St. Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2 or East Gate Lodge Personal Care Home, Box 1690, Beausejour, MB ROE OCO.
