MERTON GEORGE GREENLEY Merton George Greenley (Mert), loving husband of Dorothy Margaret Greenley, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 5, 2007, at Health Sciences Centre at the age of 87 years. Mert was born February 1, 1920 in the Coultervale district near Coulter, MB, the seventh child of James and Jessie Greenley. Mert received his education in the Coultervale district and then farmed with his parents until he joined the Army. He served as a gunner in the Canadian 56th Heavy Artillery, Esquimalt, BC, 1941 to 1946. Mert met the love of his life Dorothy Margaret Fornwald and they were married in Winnipeg on March 13, 1947. After working in the oilfields of Virden, MB, he moved his family to Winnipeg where he was employed with Malgrem's Mfg., and later retired from Allied Farm Equipment. Mom and Dad enjoyed many happy years on Donegal Bay in Winnipeg, Lac Lu, ON and lastly at Paradise Village, Ste. Anne, MB. They also spent many happy winters in Ranchero Village, Weslaco, TX. Dad loved the family cottage at Lac Lu and had just spent this past long weekend out there fishing. He also enjoyed his garden and woodworking and passed his skills down to his grandsons. Dad treasured his trips to Melita, MB to visit family. We all knew not to phone the house at 10:00 a.m. because he loved to watch The Price is Right . Mert was predeceased by his parents, three brothers, Donald, Cecil and Hector, and three sisters, Hazel Greenley, Mable Fletcher and Nora Sinclair. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Dorothy, daughters, Louise (John) Stevenson, Darlene (Shaun) Trainer, Roberta (John) Robillard, Pat (Bob) Schmidt, and sons, Murray (Brenda) Greenley and Jim (Terry) Greenley; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sister Lottie Lawrence, brother Everett (Grace), sister-in-law Helen Greenley, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery with interment to follow service.
