QUACH THAP July 21, 1918 September 4, 2007 Peacefully on September 4, Quach Thap passed away after a brief illness. Born in Guangdong, China, the youngest of 10 children, she went to Hong Kong at the age of 14 to live with her older sister. Their sisterly bond lasted more than 70 years. Together they moved to Vietnam during the Sino-Japanese war. She eventually married and raised a family. Together with her sister, they ran the most famous Chinese cheese business in their section of Saigon. Following the fall of Saigon in 1975, Quach Thap went back to Hong Kong, where her sons had fled, and immigrated to Winnipeg in 1983 to join her four daughters and their families. She spent her time taking care of her grandchildren and playing her favourite pastime mah-jong. She is survived by her older sister Quach That, her sons, Chi Shing and Chi Wai; daughters, Tu, Nu Tam, Nu Tu and Muoi; grandchildren, Dieu, Huy, Chieu, Billy, Angel, David, Cindy, Dodo, Danny, Kevin and Maggie; and great-granddaughters, Katelyn and Halie. We will remember her for her big heart, strict form of discipline, fiery temper, brutal honesty and sense of humour. She never expected anything of us, except that we all be good people. She showed us how to be that. We thank the staff at the Grace Hospital for all their help and compassionate care. Viewing will be held at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. also at Bardal Funeral Home. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to a charity to be later determined.
