SESSELIA OLSON It is with heavy hearts that we said goodbye to our dear Mom and Amma, Sesselia Olson, at the Lakeshore General Hospital on September 5, 2007. Mom was born December 1, 1918 to Gudfinna and Sumarledi Brandson at Reykjavik, Manitoba. She grew up on the family farm at Wapah - the only girl with eight brothers. As a young woman she worked as a domestic for several families and that's how she met our dad, Karl, when she came to work for Oli and Steina Olson in 1940 on Peonan Point. They were married May 23, 1942 in Winnipeg. Mom and Dad ranched and fished on Peonan Point until retirement in 1979, but moved the family to live in Steep Rock in 1950 - by this time Larry, Margaret and Oli were born. (Mom's longing for a second daughter was fulfilled here when Darlene arrived). Mom was a great homemaker. No matter what time anyone came she could get together a delicious meal for them. When we were kids she sewed our clothes and knit mitts and sweaters for everyone. A fond memory is the aroma of cinnamon buns baking when we came home from school. After 1979, Mom and Dad travelled. They went to Iceland twice, both east and west coasts of Canada, down to Florida and several short bus trips to other places in Canada and the U.S. Mom was very proud of her Icelandic Heritage, she told us when she first came to Iceland she felt she was coming home. Her mom taught her to read and write Icelandic and she never lost the language even though there were fewer and fewer people to converse with in the area. In 1998, Dad went to live in the Lundar Personal Care Home and Mom moved to the Glencora Apartments. In 2004 she was finding it quite lonely there, so she moved to the Pioneer Manor, where the homecare girls' looked after her so well. Mom is survived by her four children Larry (Gail) Olson, Margaret (Brian) Snidal, Oli (Adrienne) Olson and Darlene (Fred) Hare; ten grandchildren Pat (Katie) Olson, Penny (Kelvin) Hopgood, Shawn (Louise) Snidal, Aaron (Tracy) Snidal, Vernon Snidal, Jody (John) Izon, Eric (Susan) Olson, Wendy (Robert) Law, Jennifer Hare, Jason Hare, 11 great-grandchildren Steven and Brandan Olson, Hayley and Lukas Hopgood, Stella Snidal, Taylor Izon, Jacob, Morgan and Owen Olson, Sidney and Wayde Law, one sister-in-law Maude Brandson, also many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her husband Karl on January 30, 2000, her parents and all her brothers. Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the Steep Rock Community Church with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Interment to follow in the Faulkner Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the Steep Rock Community Hall. Pallbearers will be six of her grandsons. A viewing will be held at the church prior to the service. The family would like to thank Dr. Ramadan and all the staff at the Lakeshore General Hospital and the staff at the Dauphin General for all their care and compassion; also to Patsy Klyne and all the Homecare girls' who looked in on Mom all these years. If friends so desire donations may be made to the Lakeshore Hospital Guild, in care of Julie Bergner, Box 721 Ashern MB R0C 0E0 (for use in the Palliative Care Unit). Arrangements by: ARNASON FUNERAL HOMES LTD. Ashern - Lundar (204) 768-2072
