Peacefully with her family by her side, Michelina passed away on Monday, September 3, 2007. Michelina was predeceased by her husband Salvatore, her father Michael, her mother Francesca, her brother Sam and two sisters-in-law, Hannah and Norma. As a Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister and Friend, she will be lovingly missed by her daughter Franca (Dexter) Vlahos, sons, Michael and Mario; and six grandchildren, Nicholas, Andrew, Anthony, Jennifer, Michael, and Mathew and her great-grandson Dante. She will also be sadly missed by her sisters and brothers, Antoinette, Josephine, Peter, Joe, Mario, and Virginia and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Michelina was born in Termini Imerese, Sicily on July 8, 1933. She courageously moved to Canada in 1952 to marry Salvatore (Sam) who was to prove to be the love of her life. They were married on April 6, 1953 and were blessed with 54 years of devotion to each other. Not too long after her mother, father and siblings also moved to Winnipeg. Michelina always stayed true to her traditional values. Many years were committed to sharing and promoting the Sicilian culture and community in Winnipeg. She dedicated her life to raising and caring for her siblings, children and grandchildren. Her family and friends felt privileged to indulge in her many home cooked specialties. We will always celebrate fishing, gardening, winters in Mexico and summers at the lake. Thanks and appreciation to the 5 East Ward at the St. Boniface Hospital and the third floor team at Beacon Hill Lodge. Special thanks to Mary and Karen for their loving care and support. Prayers will be said on Sunday, September 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Holy Rosary Parish Church, 510 River Avenue. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 10 at 10:00 a.m. also at Holy Rosary Parish, with Father Sam Argenziano presiding. Entombment and reception will follow at Green Acres Holy Angel Mausoleum on #1 Hwy. at Navin Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Michelina's memory to The Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10 - 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
