Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFRED DAVIES It is with great sadness the family of Fred Davies announces his sudden passing on September 8, 2007, at the age of 68 years. Fred was born June 14, 1939, in Morris, Manitoba. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Dolly; son Michael (Tina); daughter Karmen (friend Scott); grandchildren, Melissa, Matt, Ryan, and Kristin; his mother Kay Davies; mother-in-law Annie Dreger; sister Elaine (Glenn) Hancox; brothers, Bob (Jean) and Jim (Bonny); brother-in-law Reg (Gloria) Dreger; and his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Jack Davies; sister Lorraine Covernton; nephew Geoff Covernton; and father-in-law Leo Dreger. During Fred's lifetime he had a variety of careers, from a surveyor with the Manitoba Government, then a move to Vancouver Island (Lantzville) where he worked as a backhoe operator and then a commercial fisherman. Upon his return to Morris in 1982, he started his own backhoe business and worked the winter months as the rink manager. Anyone who knew Fred knew he was a man of integrity, who valued his family and friends above all else. Fred could be counted on to put a smile on the faces of those he met with his humour, friendliness, welcoming wave, and joke of the day. Fred's love for animals was evident by the array of pets he cared for over his lifetime. These pets included a great horned owl, rabbits, a fox, a raccoon, and the usual stray cats and dogs. Fred raised chickens, ducks, geese, and was for a period of time a beekeeper. He attracted a variety of wild birds to his yard with his self-made unique birdhouses and bird feeders. Fred's greatest love was his daily trips to the farm to feed his cats who took refuge in the abandoned granary. The family would like to thank Dr. Fraser, the Morris General Hospital staff, ambulance attendants, and the local volunteer fire department for their excellent care and compassion during this difficult time. A very special thank you to grandson Matt and his friend Tim Wiebe for their prompt actions under very difficult circumstances. Services will be held at the Morris Lutheran Church of the Cross on Wednesday, September 12 at 2:00 p.m. Donations may be made in memory of Fred to the Heart Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, the Canadian Diabetes Association, or the Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
