PATRICIA SARAH ASHCROFT (SMITH) 1922 - 2007 It is with great regret that we announce the peaceful passing of Pat Ashcroft at 84 years of age, on September 8th, 2007 at the Riverview Health Centre, following a lengthy illness. Pat was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, William James (Ashee) Ashcroft in 2000, and brothers Christopher and Terence while still a youth. She is survived by her children Pat McMullan (Bernie), Jim Ashcroft (Barb), Robyn Marshall (Ken), Terri Ashcroft (Ray) of Winnipeg, Lee Ashcroft (Annabelle) of Saskatoon, Chris Ashcroft (Darlene) of Whitecourt, Alberta, grandchildren Paul, Meghann, Tamara, David, Danielle, Jim, Patrick, Michelle, Robert, Kathryn and Alex, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great-grand-children. She is also survived by her sisters Joan Layton (Byron) of Calgary, Theresa Bishop (Frank) of Surrey, England, and Joyce Carter (Ron) of Norfolk, England. Pat was born October 11, 1922 in Greenwich, England, and grew up in Kent. She met and married Ashee in 1942. Following the war, she and baby Pat emigrated to Canada. She often told stories of her journey on the Aquitania and experiences as a British war bride adjusting to life in Canada. In subsequent years, Pat and Ashee lived in a number of locations, following Ashee's career with CNR throughout northwestern Ontario and western Canada before settling permanently in Winnipeg in the early 1960s. During her later working years, Patricia was employed by the Victoria General Hospital as a Librarian. Following Ashee's retirement from CN in 1979, she and Ashee enjoyed many trips back to England, and Europe, as well as periodic visits to family across Canada. Pat also enjoyed reading, and was for many years a loyal member of her Knitting Club . Following Ashee's passing, Pat had lived at The Waverley and Dakota House. The family wishes to thank the staff of these communities who took great pains to provide care in Pat's final years. Special thanks to Dorothy and the staff of Palliative Care at Riverview Health Centre for their sensitive and compassionate care over the last months. Many thanks to Mrs. McIvor, Mrs. Fisher, Taisia, pastoral care workers Alf and Gail, and Father Phil Daley for their faithful visiting. Mom greatly enjoyed seeing you all. Cremation has taken place. An ash interment will take place on Wednesday, September 12 at St. Vital Cemetery at 10:30 a.m., followed by a service celebrating Pat's life at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Avenue (Aubrey Street entrance), at 11:30 a.m. with Father Phil Daley of St. Timothy's Parish officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined.
