EUNICE MARION GORDON (nee ROOKE) August 8, 1911 - September 9, 2007 At the age of 96, after a short illness, Eunice Gordon passed away, peacefully, at Grace Hospital, Winnipeg, Manitoba, on Sunday, September 9, 2007. Remaining to cherish her memory are her two sons and their wives, Don and Irene and Glen and Elisabeth; five grandchildren, James (Julia), Chris, Kathy (Travis), Alan (Shannon) and Peter (Candice); and seven great-grandchildren Mira, Cody, Jesse, Riley, Noelle, Felix and Samantha. She was predeceased by her husband James MacDonald (Mac) Gordon; by her three brothers, George, Eddie and Willis Rooke; and by her sister Jessie Hall. Eunice Marion Rooke was born August 8, 1911, in Cupar, Saskatchewan. She married James Macdonald Gordon in 1931. The following year they homesteaded at Erwood, Saskatchewan, and Eunice taught school there. They returned to the Gordon farm at Cupar in 1937. Following the death of her husband Mac in 1956, Eunice taught school in Cupar until her retirement. She spent a long and active retirement. She especially enjoyed playing bridge, doing needlework, travelling, and having coffee parties with her family and friends. She was one of the founding members of the Cupar Plus Fifty Club. She served on its executive and consistently advocated for community supports for seniors. She remained in Cupar until the age of 90, at which time she moved to Winnipeg in order to be closer to family. In Winnipeg she resided at The Westhaven, an assisted living seniors' retirement home. Special thanks are offered to the staff and friends at The Westhaven for the time that Mom spent with them. Funeral services will be held at Cupar United Church on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 11:00 a.m., with Reverend Danna Armstong officiating. Interment will follow in the Cupar Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Wpg., MB, R3C 2B7. Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 885-9715
