Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANDRE MACHADO DASILVA It is with great sorrow and heartache we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father Andre Machado DaSilva. He peacefully passed away with his loving family by his side on September 10, 2007. Born January 8, 1932 in Ribeira Seca da Ribeira Grande Sâo Miguel, Açorés. Andre was the second youngest of 13 children. His early years were spent helping and working on the family farm. He went on to serve in the Portuguese Armed Forces as a firefighter. In 1965, he immigrated to Canada. Andre and his family settled in Winnipeg in 1969. After working 35 years in the railway and tannery industries, Andre retired at the age of 64 in 1996. He enjoyed many hobbies such as gardening, fishing, traveling, playing cards, and spending time with his family. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife Maria of 47 years; his children Maria (Robert Rivers), Luis (Beverly DaSilva), Jose (Dioleta DaSilva), Helena DaSilva (Kelly Kandrac), Fatima DaSilva (Lyle Carruthers), Rita DaSilva (Brian Froese); grandchildren Adam, Crystal, Ashley, Megan, Chelsey and Joseph. Vigil Prayers will be said Thursday, September 13, 6:00 p.m. at Blessed John XXIII, 3390 Portage Avenue. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, September 14, 10:30 a.m. also at Blessed John the XXIII. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Health Sciences Center for their compassion and care. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg MB R3L 0K6.
