TERRENCE SAMUEL (TERRY) PORTEOUS January 13, 1928 September 11, 2007 Peacefully, with his family by his side, Terry passed away on September 11, 2007 at the Riverview Medical Centre in Winnipeg. Remaining to forever respect his honorable battle with cancer are his children, Lana (Dan), Joan (Bryce), David (Joanne), Tracy (Becki), Doug (Tina); grandchildren, Elise (George), Erin, Robin, Brian, Colton; sister Edna (Monty); sister in-law Alpha, brothers-in-law, Thor and John (Shirley) and many, many cherished friends. Terry was predeceased by his beloved wife and life partner Carol, mother and father Nora and Dave and mother-in-law Amma'. Terry was born and raised in Woodlands, Manitoba where he formed what would become a life long love of the outdoors and sports. He lost his Dad early in life so he left school to support his mother and sister. Terry worked his way up from a mailroom gopher at the Canadian Wheat Board to become the first Vice President of Information Technology for Wawanesa Insurance, an international corporation. While achieving many milestones professionally, responsible for the acquisition and management of data and computer related systems, what ultimately inspired Terry was his love for his family, his grandchildren in particular, his friends, playing and coaching hockey and baseball, hunting and golfing. Terry was a man of few words, while always a gracious host to friends, colleagues and family, engaging in jokes and stories and planning for future trips, tournaments or other events, he said little about his struggle with cancer. True to his life, in death he spared his loved ones the pain that he endured. Terry remained proudly independent his entire life. We have profound admiration for his bravery, his tenacity, his grace and his will. We will all miss him very much. The family would like to thank the staff at the Riverview Health Centre for their gentle and compassionate care in the very short time our father was there. Funeral Services will be held at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, 433 Main Street, Stonewall, Manitoba, Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. The service will be followed by a reception. Long time friend Reverend W. A. (Bill) Cross will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ducks Unlimited, Box 1160, Stonewall, MB, R0C 2Z0. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I remember everything you did for me. Whether it be playing mini-sticks or introducing me to the game of golf. I have the privilege of knowing that you are by my side everyday even though you are not physically here. I think about you almost everyday and constantly wish I could see you again. You never showed me you were going through a battle with cancer, but I knew it was tough. Your body was shutting down, yet you would find a will to play mini-sticks or get up from your nap to get me a cookie. I still reminisce of our times with my dad at SalIsbury House. We would talk sports and enjoy a nice breakfast. I remember playing at Allard Arena and you were there in that cold rink. I can't thank you enough. After the game you would give me a bag of Old Dutch or Lays original chips. To this day I still eat them because of you. Whenever I play sports I do it for you. You brought me to the games I love. I can't wait to see you again someday. But, for now I know you are with me. I love you Papa! - Posted by: Grandson (Brought me to sports) on: Mar 10, 2016
