Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBESSIE RATNER WHITEMAN Bessie Ratner Whiteman, adored mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on September 6, 2007. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Morris Whiteman. Bessie was the second of five Ratner girls, Molly, Bessie, Sophie, Doris and Minnie. Their brother Harry died in the Second World War. A gentle, chic and meticulous woman, Bessie was a voracious reader, a gourmet cook and an avid boxing and baseball fan. She was an impeccable homemaker, creating warm and comfortable homes wherever Morris's job as an engineer took them, from Dawson Creek, BC building the Alaska Highway to the oil refineries in Beaumont, Texas. In 1964 they returned home to Winnipeg. Bessie always welcomed you with her beautiful smile, sharp wit and fabulous hospitality. She doted on her family. She is survived by her sister Minnie Karlinsky of Winnipeg; her children, Clare Whiteman of Winnipeg and Resanne and Earl Saltzman of Houston, Texas; her grandchildren, Bev and Marc Lewyn of Atlanta, Georgia, Frank and Jennifer Saltzman of Houston, Texas and David Saltzman of Austin, Texas. She also leaves six great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Rachel, Sarah and Rebecca Lewyn and Remy and Briana Saltzman, as well as many nieces and nephews. She will forever be remembered for her love, her smile, her quiet inner strength, her wisdom, her warmth, her generosity and her deep, profound caring. Her family would like to thank the second floor staff of the Sharon Home for their compassion, warmth and care of our mother during these last four years.
