CATHERINE JOAN GAUER September 1932 - September 2007 After a lengthy illness, Joan Gauer died peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre, on Tuesday, September 11, 2007. Joan will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered, by her sister Brenda Standing (Harold), brothers, Alex (Winnifred) and George (Dorothy), by her close friend Mary Bancroft, and by her many nieces and nephews and their families. Family meant the world to Joan. Joan was predeceased by her parents, Marjorie and Edward Gauer. She was born in Winnipeg, and graduated with a B.A. from United College, a B. Ed. from the University of Manitoba, and later earned a degree in Library Science from the University of Toronto. For five years, Joan taught Physical Education at Sargent Park, Aberdeen and Churchill High Schools. She later worked for one year in the Vancouver Public Library, before coming back to the Manitoba Provincial Library where she worked for eight years. Joan then returned to the schools as a teacher-librarian, at Grant Park High School and Andrew Mynarski VC School for a total of 16 years. Joan worked faithfully for the Children's Hospital Book Mart, enjoyed curling and golf and needlework, and had hoped to spend many more happy times at Falcon Lake. The family would like to thank the Doctors and the Nursing teams for their thoughtful and compassionate care during Joan's stay in GD 4, at the Health Sciences Centre. A Service will be held on Monday, September 17 at 2:00 p.m. in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home. Flowers are gratefully declined.
