ELIN KRISTIN SLOBODZIAN (nee PAULSON) February 25, 1908 - September 8, 2007 Elin passed away peacefully the morning of September 8, 2007 in Concordia Hospital. She had lived an enviably long, healthy, and independent life until she suffered a stroke on August 14, 2007. She was predeceased by her husband John in 1984, and by her parents, five brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her daughters Carol, Cheryl (Gordon) and Susan; grandchildren, Michael, Jason, Sean (Twinkle) and Heather; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Mark and Emma; and sister-in-law Barbara Slobodzian. Elin was born near Gerald, Saskatchewan. She trained as a nurse at Misericordia Hospital and worked in home nursing before her marriage to John Slobodzian in 1941. They lived together in Fork River, Dauphin and then Winnipeg. She was active in the community and the lives of others. She and her husband were founding members of St. Basil's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Winnipeg; she was a member of the Catholic Women's League; she was involved in Girl Guides, was a member of the Royal Purple Lodge, and volunteered for the Red Cross, the Cancer Society and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Her involvement continued late into her life; when she moved to the St. Michael's Villa seniors complex, she took part in all St. Michaels' activities and held executive positions on the villa council, including tenants' president. She was one of the first residents of St. Michaels' Villa and always made an effort to welcome new tenants. She was a very caring and giving person, always available to help family and neighbours. Her strength lay in her ability to provide wisdom and guidance to her family with a gentle authority. A private family interment will take place in Dauphin, MB. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate in Elin's name to the charity of their choice.
