Date of Passing: Sep 13, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD MCKAY TELFORD On the morning of September 13, 2007, Don passed away in the loving presence of his family. He is survived by his daughter Bonnie Buhler (John), son Bill (Cheryl), sister Freddie (Fred) and brother-in-law Gordon Phillips as well as grandchildren, Kathy (Sean), Barb (Marc), Tracey (Jeff) and nine great-grand-children. He was predeceased by his wife Lorna, his parents, William and Alice and his sister-in-law Helen Phillips. Don grew up in both Winnipeg and Vancouver where he developed a lifelong passion for the west coast. While in his twenties, he met the love of his life, Lorna Craig, and they married in 1939. Don was a proud member of the tank corps of the Fort Garry Horse Regiment and served his country honorably during the Second World War. At war's end, Don and Lorna moved to Vancouver Island to begin their life together. They later returned to Winnipeg to continue 63 wonderful years of marriage until Lorna's passing in 2002. Don enjoyed many pursuits throughout his life. A musician, the sounds of piano and organ music resonated throughout the block where he lived. He loved athletics and sport and was both a participant as well as an avid fan. A scratch golfer during his youth, he became reacquainted with golf during his retirement years spending many pleasant hours on the links. Don's greatest attribute was his personal character. Honest and sincere, he treated each person he met with respect and affection. Everyone in his presence drew comfort and reassurance from his warm and gentle nature. He was a wonderful role model for his family. As a result of this, his children grew up knowing that they were loved and valued. Don was a true gentleman. Though we will miss him immeasurably, we take comfort in the knowledge that he lived a full life with honour and dignity. His memory will live on in each of us who were fortunate enough to know and love him. The family wishes to extend our gratitude to the team who supported Don's wish to remain at home through his final years. Many thanks to the Home Care staff, River Avenue Medical Clinic personnel and Blair and Lisa from Harmon's Food Services. Due to their professionalism and compassion, Don was able to maintain his independence and comfort. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ronald MacDonald House. Arrangements entrusted to: VOYAGE FUNERAL HOME CREMATORIUM FAMILY OWNED OPERATED 220 Hespeler @ Henderson Hwy. 668-3151
