GEORGE COPELAND With family by his side, George passed away at home on September 13, 2007. He was predeceased by his parents, Jim and Chrissie, brother Tom and twin baby brothers, James and John. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Betty, children, Doug, Susan, Sandra and Lorne Hiebert, granddaughter, Lisa, Traci and Alison, sisters and brothers-in-law, Marg and Vern Peterson, Joan and Ted Davidson, Shirley Harding, nieces, nephews and cousins. George was born in Transcona on October 30, 1923. Upon leaving school, he worked for Weston Bakery on home delivery in Transcona before joining CN in 1942. During the Second World War he served in the Canadian Dental Corps in St. John's, NF, and Halifax, NS. He returned to the CN Shops in Transcona upon discharge, retiring in 1984. George was a member of the Transcona Memorial United Church, serving on the Worship Committee, Board of Trustees and as an Honorary Elder. He was a Boy Scout leader with the 3rd Transcona, member and secretary of the Transcona Caledonian Society, member and secretary of the Transcona Curling Club. He enjoyed sports, especially curling and hockey. He loved to spend summers at Albert Beach, missing only four years, since 1924. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to his doctors, especially Dr. D. Caners, WRHA nurses, especially Marlene, Harriet and Naomi and Gene of home care. A Memorial service will be held on Monday, September 17, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at the Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Avenue West, with Rev. Jeff Cook and Rev. Carol Fletcher officiating. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, memorial donations may be made to the Transcona Memorial United Church or to a charity of your choice. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
